The musée Granet, a cultural institution of the Communauté du Pays d’Aix, will present the “The White Mountain”, a 100 sq.m. exhibition of photographs of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire by Bernard Plossu, between 13 October and 16 December.

These 107 never-before-seen photographs reveal the influence of white light on the artist during his walks around and up the mountain.

Conscious of the mark left by his illustrious predecessors in this place prized by painters, Bernard Plossu decided to dedicate this series to François-Marius Granet, who he admires greatly. These landscapes in 17.5 x 26.5 cm format are displayed alongside miniatures (7.7 x 11.6 cm) of the eastern slope, taken in full sunlight in the Puyloubier region.

Bernard Plossu was also keen to break the classical mould by taking a series of more modern photographs of the mountain from a distance, featuring electric poles and common brand names, offering an alternative vision of Sainte-Victoire.

A selection of miniature photographs from the “Dust garden” series taken in New Mexico and artists’ books will reveal how Plossu has approached the landscape throughout his career.
