Pierre Alechinsky - Musée Granet
@Musée Granet

Pierre Alechinsky is one of the world’s leading contemporary artists. In the run up to Marseille Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture, the musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence is paying tribute to this leading figure on the art scene and passionate admirer of the Midi with an international-scale exhibition.

Since the 1950’s, Alechinsky has drawn his inspiration from the south of France - Montpellier, Les Cévennes, Les Alpilles and the Montagne Sainte Victoire near Aix-en-Provence.

Throughout the summer, the “Alechinsky, les ateliers du Midi” retrospective, which spans more than 500 sq.m. and eight rooms, will feature around 170 major works - paintings, drawings, engravings, ceramics and books inspired by Alechinsky’s visits to the south.

The exhibition will explore every aspect of the artist’s work, from his first visit to the Midi to his latest pieces produced in 2009.

Many of these rare works have been loaned in the large format representative of much of Pierre Alechinsky’s artistic output.

  • Learning activities and events will be organised as part of the event.
